At Your Fingertips: How mobile applications are adding value

Living in the age of advancement and modernization, many people use products of technology in their everyday lives. From the moment you turn off your alarm phone in the morning to scrolling on social media before you go to sleep at night, there is a technological presence. One of the most significant developments in technology is mobile applications or apps, for short. Apps are convenient to use anytime and anywhere because they are easily accessible, and most are free of charge. Even with a busy schedule, you plan through apps, such as finding a trusted keto diet coach or fixing an itinerary to Salt Lake City.  But with the increasing dependence on apps, is its impact truly value-adding to how we live our lives today?

Improved student productivity

The younger generation commonly uses mobile apps because they grew up being exposed to their availability. With just one click, one can already learn a variety of information, and this much-helped academics around the world to enhance the productivity of students. Educators from the Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut thought of maximizing mobile apps, particularly curated digital magazines, to “increase engagement and spark curiosity and interest.” In effect, this research yielded positive results. Using a mobile platform was exciting to the student because it was a new learning experience.

Stronger social connections

Aside from being an alternative method of education, mobile apps help us maintain contact with family, friends, or business colleagues. In 2013, two (2) researchers from Near East University in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus, conducted a study on evaluating the most used mobile device applications by 72 students. In addition to educational purposes, results show that students use apps for communication purposes as well because the most downloaded apps are related to social networking or social media. Even government agencies are shifting to the digitization and exploring mobile apps to deliver services electronically to the public. Accordingly, there are two types of government apps – (a) the enterprise-focused for internal use and (b) client-oriented apps for external use – that invite users to be part of the decision-making processes.

Convenience and self-discovery

Mobile apps can also affect one’s well-being. To save time, everyone now has the option to quickly finish running errands and no longer waiting in long lines, like paying bills or picking up dry cleaning. Another way to reach the desired destination without going through the substantial commute is by booking a car or motor-taxi online.  If one is also strictly sticking to a budget and seeks to live more healthily, there are existing mobile apps related to this as well.

Given the rise and growth of technology, humanity has been allowed to make living easier, such as the production of mobile apps. It is safe to say that they largely contribute to what we are today and how we function daily.

Mobile apps are also value-adding to anyone as they build relationships with new people and help stay connected with familiar ones. Self-discovery is heightened as individuals turn to technology to gain more knowledge. As we continue to count on convenience in our lives, it’s best to maximize mobile apps for as long as one never forgets to evaluate first the reliability of the apps being downloaded to guarantee safety.
