Gulf Islands Brewery is a small craft brewery,
located in the heart of the Fulford Valley on
Salt Spring Island, BC., Canada. We create distinctly
superior kegged beer using natural ingredients (locally grown if possible) and pure spring water. Our products are available in liquor stores and finer pubs and restaurants in the Gulf Islands and South Vancouver Island. We value integrity, respect, responsibility and innovation.

The boys behind the brew

  • Murray: Well, this all started with him — he's the president, brewmaster and keg washer. His first brew took place on a hot summer morning in August 1998 (picture at right) — it began at 8:00 a.m. and wrapped up 16 hours later at midnight. He's honed his craft to the point where he gets it all done in nine hours today. And if that's not enough of an accomplishment, he also plays a mean trumpet.
  • Bob: Murray's partner in crime (so to speak) — he's that unique combination of treasurer, marketing genius and...errrrr... janitor. Bob's the water guy, and when he's not toiling on Gulf Islands Brewery work, you'll probably find him out on his boat.
  • Scottie: He's one of Canada’s beer experts and heads up GIB's sales. Scottie has been a fixture in the craft brewing scene since the early days of Whistler brewing. He is active as social director for CAMRA Victoria and was one of the founding members of the Great Canadian Beer Festival. Scottie writes a regular beer column for the CAMRA Victoria newsletter (Out and About with Scottie). Oh, and Scottie knows everyone.

Community supporters

If there's any kind of event on Salt Spring, you'll probably find Murray and the boys there. They are big supporters of community music and arts organizations and events — from the Salt Spring Concert Band to ArtSpring to the annual fall fair. And as brewers of all-natural beer, they're firmly behind the Island's environmental organizations, like the Salt Spring Conservancy and the Rain Coast Conservation Society.
